Skin Care

It seems as though everyone is all about skincare these days, which is a good thing. Our skin being the largest organ of the human body and the protective material that keeps everything secure (it’s nature’s Spanx for the human body), and what others see when they look at us, it should get extra love and attention to make sure it looks healthy, The issue though is how often are bad products being promoted? Sure they might work on the surface, but do we truly know what the long-term effects of some ingredients are after prolonged use? Our skin is almost like a sponge, absorbing what we apply to it and while what we apply may be small during each use, the amount adds up over time and that’s where find issues.

So what’s toxic in our skincare products and how do we know which ones are safe and those that aren’t?

A fast and simple way to quickly weed out the easy ones to toss is to look at the ingredients. Like the food at the store, the ingredients list works the same way. The first ingredient is what the product is made up of the most and down to the least amount of an ingredient being the last. Look for products with short ingredient lists hopefully easy to read. Super long ingredients difficult to read/pronounce are the ones you want to toss.

Next look at the ingredients. If there are any Parabens, Carbon Black, Petroleum Jelly, Fragrance, Oxybenzone, Phthalates, Formaldehyde, Ethanolamines, 1,4 Dioxane, Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), Soy (or Soya) then it’s time to part with them buy cleaner skincare products that not only do what they are supposed to for your skin but they are made with cleaner ingredients.

A great resource to explore cleaner products is a website called Credo. Here’s a post about my experiences with it and how it helped me start making the switch to cleaner products.
